West Yorkshire Maths Hub Early Years Work Group: Sign-up now!
This Work Group aims to support teachers to develop specialist knowledge for teaching mathematics in the Early Years, with particular emphasis on developmental progression and Early Years pedagogy.
The Work Group will support teachers to promote positive attitudes to maths so that children are willing to have a go, persevere and share their mathematical ideas.

Session 1 - Counting and Cardinality 1

🔹In this session we will look at key research around counting and cardinality and how this can be transferred to the classroom.
Session 2 - Counting and Cardinality 2

🔹Here, we look at how we can further develop counting and cardinality through our everyday classroom routines.
Session 3 - Comparison 1

🔹In this session we will focus on the developmental progression of comparison and what this looks like in the classroom.
Session 4 - Comparison 2

🔹Here, we will explore games and activities that we can use to support the teaching of comparison.
Session 5 - Composition 1

🔹In this session we will explore the developmental progression of composition.
Session 6 - Composition 2

🔹We will look at ways to develop children’s mark-making and look at how this can support the teaching of composition.
Session 7 - Linking to Teaching for Mastery

🔹This session looks at the five big ideas of TfM. Practitioners consider how their Early Years practice feeds into this approach.
